Players from across Montgomery County turned out Saturday for the fourth annual Audacity of Hoops basketball tournament in downtown Silver Spring. Council member Cherri Branson hosted the 3-on-3 tournament, which uses sports and recreation as a way to engage students and their families in constructive activities.

Montgomery County has kicked off a weeklong social media campaign to educate drivers about the importance of complying with Maryland laws pertaining to stopped school buses with activated flashing lights and stop arms. When approaching a stopped school bus with activated flashing red lights, Maryland law requires that motorists traveling in the same direction as the bus must stop.

Supporters of the family said on a GoFundMe page set up to accept donations to pay for search expenses that corporate donors are offering a $10,000 reward in the case. Donations to the search fund totaled $2,742 Monday afternoon.

Shortly before midnight July 8, Tackett, a corporal with the Anne Arundel County Police Department, responded to an apartment in the 5900 block of Ritchie Highway in Brooklyn Park and found a 32-year-old woman lying unconscious on a bed. A 63-year-old man told the officer he found the woman after he came out of the bathroom in the apartment.

If you live in Washington, D.C.'s or Baltimore's northern or western suburbs, you know that winter weather can differ dramatically from northwest to southeast within the same county. With that variation in mind, the National Weather Service will subdivide several counties - Loudoun, Montgomery, Howard and Harford - for the purpose of "long-duration" watches, warnings and advisories beginning December 3. To put it simply, it means the Weather Service will now have the option to issue a watch, warning or advisory for only the northwest or southeast portion of the county, rather than having to include the entire county.
