Montgomery County Police say more sex offense charges have been filed against a substitute teacher accused of sexual abuse of a minor. Fifty-year-old Jose Pineda of Gaithersburg was charged Friday with three counts of third-degree sex offense and three counts of sexual abuse of a minor.

Montgomery County firefighters lent a hand to police from Prince George's County Monday by helping detain a robbery suspect at a grocery store in Chillum while doing their Thanksgiving shopping. The firefighters, who belong to the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service's Takoma Park company, were picking up food for their Thanksgiving day shift at a store in the 6800 block of New Hampshire Avenue when they heard screaming.

The school board in Montgomery County, Maryland, ignited a national debate earlier this month by voting to eliminate the names of Christian and Jewish religious holidays on the school calendar - while still planning to close schools on those days. The board's action was in response to the local Muslim community's longstanding request to add at least one Muslim holiday to the list of days when the district's schools would close.

Rain-snow line is progressing into D.C.'s far north and west suburbs - into northern Montgomery County and Loudoun County We expect slow eastward progress of the rain-snow line this morning, but whether snow makes it inside the Beltway is a tough call, and may not occur until midday.
