A Gaithersburg man faces multiple charges after he barricaded himself inside his home and threatened to hurt his wife Sunday night. Jeffery A. Flaherty, 53, is charged with four counts of first-degree assault.

A man barricaded himself in a Gaithersburg house, then reportedly tried to provoke police into shooting him during a standoff that ended peacefully Sunday night. The incident began when a Germantown woman called 911 about 7:15 p.m. Dec. 21 to report that her husband, Jeffrey Allan Flaherty, had threatened to kill her and her family members.

A Montgomery County house fire has injured a firefighter and displaced a family. About 75 firefighters fought the fire in Burtonsville early Monday morning.

A house fire at 1001 Paul Drive in Rockville displaced eight people, four adults and four children, on Friday night, according to Montgomery Community Media . Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services Spokesperson Pete Piringer said a smoke alarm alerted three residents to the fire and the one adult and two children escaped safely.
